Dance Hair

So for those of you that don't know the diva is in dance class, she does jazz and hip hop and she is on a competition team as well. So I wanted to show her dance hair styles.

For Jazz she has to wear a bun with a left side part, so I opted for the never-let-me-down sock bun :)

For her hip hop dance she has to have wild and crazy hair:
I wouldn't call this wild and crazy but it is an eye catcher at competitions and cute I think.

I will take these braids out for braid out

Homemade Leave-In Conditioner/Detangler

So I received this recipe and this tip from Kimberly and so I decided to try it out. I LOVE it! It works wonders, I use it as a detangler on my hair, and the diva's hair. I also use it to define my son's curls. It smells great too because of the conditioner I use and the best part is that it is super cheap, it also really moisturizes our hair which is awesome!

These ingredients turned into....
I used two squirts of the VO5 Moisture Milks conditioner
2 capfuls of the EVOO
1/2 of the distilled water

I shook it all up in my water bottle and ta-da, finished!

Two Curly Ponytails

I took the Easter hairstyle and turned it into this! I kept the two flat twists in the front and then I parted the hair all the way down the middle and made two ponytails. I took the remaining hair from the two flat twists and criss crossed them and connected them to each ponytail. To achieve the curls on the ponytails I added 3 sponge rollers to each ponytail. She slept with her satin bonnet on and the only thing I did in the morning was take off the bonnet and take out the rollers :)

Enjoy!

You guys all know I can't part straight right? LOL

VO5 Conditioner

So while at the Dollar Tree I stumbled across these two conditioners and I said to myself what the heck they're only a dollar a piece I'll try them.

Alberto VO5 Herbal Escapes Clarifying Conditioner Kiwi Lime Squeeze with lemongrass extract

I was too lazy to type out the ingredients but if someone requests them then I will gladly provide them then :)

I haven't tried this one yet.

Alberto VO5 Moisture Milks Moisturizing Conditioner Passion Fruit Smoothie with soy milk protein.

I used this after I dyed my hair it made my hair incredibly soft! I put my hair in a high ponytail overnight, in the morning I took the ponytail loose and let my hair go wild to further dry and not only did my hair smell delicious it was so soft and SOFT :) Considering how my hair soaks up moisture I was sure I was going to have to add some kind of creme, butter, or oil to my hair but to my surprise I didn't need any of that.

These will be my new conditioners for co-washes

Has anyone tried these before?
If so what were your thoughts?
I wonder if the clarifying conditioner works like a clarifying shampoo?

Length Check

So I am in the process of growing out my bob that I had cut last Aug 2010. This my length as of April 2011. I will update my length in3 months stay tuned!

Enjoy!

Happy Easter!!!

This was our Easter hairstyle.

Product Review Time!!!

So I bought this hair creme awhile back on the recommendation of the beauty supply worker.

Name: Le Tolanol Hair Care Creme

Description: Our successful  light product gives your hair body, style, and softness without that greasy look. Abundant in emollients, it is designed to melt at body temperature to lubricate hair and scalp.

The greaseless hair & scalp dressing, revitalizes hair, won't clog pores. contains no petroleum jelly, stimulates hair growth.

Directions: Massage into scalp and hair after shampoo and towel drying and between shampoos as often as needed.

Price: $4.99 at my local beauty supply store

Ingredients: Complex tri-glycerides, lecithin, lanolin, fragrance, corn oil, soya fatty acids, dimethicone copolyol, propyl perasept, estradiol B, isopropyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol, cetyl alcohol, isopropyl adipate, sparmaceti and hydrogenated soybean oil.

Color: A cream color

Texture: It is thick in the jar like a paste I guess you could say

My Thoughts:
I like the smell, I like that it doesn't clog the pores, but holds like a grease. I am guilty of using grease in the past :( So I like that this is soft and still holds the edges of the diva's hair down. It doesn't build up and a little goes a long way, I would say this jar will last us at lease 9 months if not longer.

Making his Grand Debut........

Is my son :) We'll call him JJ (that's what his friends at school call him). JJ is 9 years old and we will only make an appearance here every once and awhile. Let me share a story about JJ.

Once upon a time in a far away land JJ lived a happy life with his little diva sister and their parents. One day JJ decided he no longer wished to get haircuts every two weeks by his dad using the big bad clippers and told his mom he wanted to wear his curls. So he started out on his journey of growing his hair out, and then the day finally came when his mom told him that his hair grew long enough to start his curlious styling, he was so pleased. Now JJ still has to visit the big bad clippers every now and then for a line up but that is much better than getting his whole head cut.

Enjoy!

Successful Hair Day!!!

So last time I did a co wash and decided I would try to do a different kind of twist out. I am starting to learn through my hair journey what works on my hair and what doesn't work. So immediately after washing and conditioning I put my hair in a ponytail and squeezed all the excess water out. I then began my parts and twists. On each section I applied my ORS Lock & Twist Gel and my Proclaim Olive Moisturizing Leave In Creme, I then slept with a satin bonnet on and woke up this morning to still damp hair. I undid my twists and was left with a nice curly hair do, not really a twist out due to the dampness of my hair but I loved how it came out. My hair felt so super soft and moisturized, I never once put a towel to my head and that helped majorly with no frizz :)

Enjoy!

Here are the twists I did on wet hair there are 5 of them

Damp twist out (my son failed to tell me my tag was sticking out)

Hair Challenge

I am wanting to and thinking of starting a hair challenge for the mommy's or adult women (no kiddies this time). It's always great to have a support system, to be able share our stories, our products, or successes and our failures along the way. I am thinking a 3 month challenge using no heat, only protective styles or wash n' go's. There would be a winner chosen and that winner would win a handmade crocheted item made by me. Maybe a nice slouchy hat or a nice scarf for the winter season. So what do you think? Who wants to join me? If I get any takers then I'll officially start the challenge if I don't then I'll be sad :(

Thanks!

If you were to enter which would you prefer to win a hat or a scarf?

Twist & Tuck

After wearing my wash n go for 2 days, I thought it was looking a little rough :) So I applied some Lisa's Hair Exlicir by Carol's Daughter and did two twists that connected to the back middle of my head (barely) then I took the remaining hair left out in the back and rolled it upward and bobby pinned it. What do you think?

Enjoy!
I SO need to dye my hair, but I am too lazy to buy the dye :(

Big forehead alert!

My son took this pic can't you tell a short person took it? he he

I added a decorative bobby pin to the middle to cover the rubber band

Cornrows & a Twist Out

Ok, so last night I posted the diva's (I almost typed her real name right now hehe) style of cornrows in the front and a sock bun in the back. Well maybe 10 mins after that photo she was playing with her brother and her hair looked a hot mess the sock bun was dang near falling out of her head. So I took it out and did a bunch of 3 strand twists and put on her satin bonnet. This morning I used a light oil (Lisa's Hair Exilcir by Carol's Daughter) and undid the twists for a twist out and this is the result. I like it!

Enjoy!

Cornrows with a Bun

I added some cornrows to the top front and did a sock bun in the back and added one of her flower clips I made for her.

Enjoy!

Mommy Curls

So for those of you who follow my blog know that I have been struggling to style my curls down and out (in a ponytail they are fine) So today I sectioned my hair in four sections and washed and conditioned it in the four sections with the Curls products. Then I applied Carol's Daughter Hair Milk, I fingered combed it through each section then applied some Curls Goddess Gel and The Curl's Moisturizing Spray so I then blow dry my hair with the diffuser attached and this is the result.

Looks a little frizzy, and feels a little crunchy, maybe I will skip the gel the next time I experiment with it. Also it didn't look right just down so I had to twist the front in two sections.

Any tips? Or suggestions?
