Homemade Werewolf Halloween Costume For Kids

Hey Guys!

I hope you and your kiddos had a fab Halloween.

This year Jalen wanted to be a Werewolf so I began brainstorming and came up with the following:

I used the following materials:

• 1/2 yard of fur fabric (joann’s on sale $3.49)
• a ski mask ($6.99 at Big 5)
• pair of brown gloves $2.99 at Big 5)
• The white sheet is something that is kinda hard and sold near the fabric not quite sure the name of it or how much I bought but it did cost $1.36 at Joann’s

I used the white sheet to make the ears, I just freehand drew two ears and cut out 2 pieces of the white sheet for each ear. Then I hot glued them together. Next I traced the same ear shape onto a piece of the fur and again cut out two pieces per ear so a total of four. I then hot glued both sides of fur to each side of the white pieces

Next I added a small piece of beige colored felt paper I had in my stash to make it look like the inside of the ear

Finished ear Pretty cool huh? These would make perfect cat ears too!

Onto the claws

I traced my hand onto the fur

I then cut out the shape twice for both claws duh!! Then I cut off the fingers and thumb and hot glued each piece separately so as to allow for hand movement.

I purchased the claws at a Halloween store, they came in a witch kit with fangs and a hat for $3.49

I cut the finger tips of the brown gloves off so he could put the claws on

For the hairy chest I grabbed a regular sized felt sheet I already had in my stash and freehand drew a deep V neck

I cut the V shape out, hot glued a piece of fur on it and then did a quick hand stitch on the 3 corners of the V to one of Jalen’s undershirts. I then easily cut my stitches out so he can still wear the undershirt

I just left his plaid button up shirt open about 3 buttons so you can see the hairy chest.

For the head piece I cut strips of fur off and safety pinned them to the ski mask. I chose to safety pin rather than sew because I can unpin the fur and the ski mask will still be useable and it’s quicker and easier than trying seam rip a bunch of stitches out. But you can do whatever your heart desires :).

I did however sew the ears into place I added a little black make-up using an eyeliner I bought at Walmart for $0.97

This costume would work perfectly in colder climates as it is warm and cozy and you wouldn’t need a jacket on to keep warm. I hate when jackets cover costumes

P.S. Plaid shirt, jeans, and shoes are all his regular clothes

 

Did I successfully pull off a werewolf? I am doubting myself because his friend said he looked like Chewbacca : /
